Wamboo

A wombat digs thirty metres of tunnel through ground you would need a machine for. When the bush burns, every other animal ends up in his corridor. He does not charge rent. He just keeps digging.

Built like a brick, shaped like a loaf

Nothing about this animal was designed by a committee.

Most mascots in this market are picked for how they look in a profile picture. The wombat was picked for how he behaves underground: he starts digging, he does not stop, and the hole he leaves behind outlives him by decades. Some burrows in Australia are older than the country's stock exchange.

He is also, by a wide margin, the most stubborn animal on the continent. You cannot push him out of his tunnel. People have tried. There is a reason that section is called armour-plated exit.

Three facts, all verifiable

We did not invent any of this. Look it up while the chart loads.

Note 01

It ships in cubes

The only animal on earth that produces cube-shaped droppings — up to a hundred a night, stacked on rocks as territory markers. The intestine does the moulding. Nobody else on this chain has a shape.

Note 02

The exit is armour

His backside is a plate of cartilage and bone. When something follows him into the tunnel he blocks the entrance with it and pushes up — crushing the intruder against the roof. A rear end that functions as a door.

Note 03

Everyone hides in his hole

During bushfires, cameras have caught wallabies, lizards, echidnas and birds sheltering deep in wombat burrows. He did not invite them and he did not stop them. The tunnel simply holds.
